In an effort to simplify and streamline the process of notifying the school of your student’s absence, we have created a unique email address which parents can now use to send in their absentee notices. This will eliminate the need to call school and/or send in a handwritten note in the event of your child’s absence. This process became effective on September 24, 2018. The email address is:

  • If you do not send an email, your student should bring a note to Student Services from home on the first day back to school after an absence, explaining the reason for the absence(s).
    • Students are responsible for make-up work.
    • Lawful absences include: absences for death of immediate family member, illness of student, court summons, hazardous weather conditions, observance of religious holiday, state emergency, suspension, and up to 3 days per year for a purpose determined by a parent/guardian. Prior notice to the principal is required.
  • The exclusions to this are:
    • If you are requesting 3 or more discretionary days, you must still complete a Discretionary Absence Form and send it in to Student Services.
    • If you are requesting a day for a religious holiday not identified by the Howard County Public School System school calendar, please complete a Religious Obligation Form.

If your child is out sick for 3 or more days, please contact our Student Services Secretary at 410-313-2844. We will collect work from the teachers for you to pick up only if the student has been absent for 3 or more days. If they are only out 1 or 2 days have them call a homework buddy from their class, and check each teachers CANVAS page.

A student arriving at school after 8:25am should report directly to Student Services.

  • Students should bring a note from home with a legitimate reason for being late OR a parent must sign them in.
    • Oversleeping, missing the bus, traffic, etc. are not considered excused.
  • If the BUS is late, the late arrival will automatically be excused.

The last unscheduled Early Dismissal time is 2:50pm on full days and 11:50am on 3-hour early dismissal days.

  • If you arrive after these times, parent(s)/guardian(s) will be asked to wait for your student in your vehicle in the car loop for our dismissal.

We will not call down students until their Parent(s)/Guardian(s) is/are physically present in Student Services to sign them out. This is to avoid students losing valuable instruction time and student safety. Students may not leave the building before being signed out.

  • Parent(s)/Guardian(s) should be prepared to provide picture identification when signing students out from school.
  • Parent(s)/Guardian(s) should remain inside either Student Services or the Front Office, not in the hall or foyer for safety purposes.
  • Parent(s)/Guardian(s) please do not exit the building without your student.
